[김현우 기자 = 경기북부] 지난 21일 양주시 회천2동은 행정복지센터에서  ‘재활용품 모아모아, 환경개선 More & More Day’를 성황리에 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이날 행사는 배출되는 재활용품에 대해 보상 물품을 2배로 지급하는 방식으로 진행했으며 이날 수거한 재활용품은 투명페트병 95㎏, 폐건전지 80㎏ 및 우유팩 16㎏, 플라스틱 용기 8㎏, 알루미늄캔 11㎏, 아이스팩 630개라고 했다. 

특히 수거된 재활용품에 대해 종량제봉투(10ℓ) 580장이 지급돼 주민들의 적극적인 관심과 높은 호응을 확인할 수 있었고, 수거한 재활용품 중 아이스 팩을 제외한 나머지 품목은 재활용선별장에 기증해 고품질 재활용 원료로 재사용될 예정이라고 했다. 

또한 아이스 팩은 코로나19 장기화로 경제적 어려움을 겪고 있는 관내 소상공인들에게 무료로 제공될 예정이며, 이와 더불어 통장을 중심으로 생활쓰레기의 올바른 분리배출을 유도하고 재활용품 수거에 대한 주민 참여를 독려하기 위한 환경캠페인도 함께 전개했다고 전했다.

이번 행사에 참여한 주민 최씨(男 54세)는 “최근 1회용품 사용량이 급증하는 상황에서 재활용 가능 자원이 생활폐기물로 버려지는 현실이 매우 안타깝다”며 “이번 재활용품 보상교환 사업에 참여해 자원재활용의 의미뿐만 아니라 쓰레기를 감량하고 환경을 보호하는 데 크게 일조한 것 같아 시민의 한 사람으로서 매우 뿌듯하다”고 말했다.

홍미영 동장은 “이번 사업은 지역주민들에게 적극적인 보상교환을 통해 분리배출 동기를 부여함으로써 재활용품 수거율 향상 및 분리배출 참여 확대를 도모하고자 준비했다”며 “앞으로도 회천2동만의 특별한 그린뉴딜 동정 시책을 전개해 쾌적하고 깨끗한 양주시를 만드는 데 최선을 다할 것”이라고 말했다.
