[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 29일 동두천시보건소는 최근 장마철 등 고온다습한 기후로 위생해충이 급증함에 따라 공원 및 산책로, 신천변, 공공시설, 역사 주변 등에 설치되어 있는 모기 포충기(해충퇴치기) 153대에 대해 야간점검을 실시했다고 밝혔다.

모기 포충기는 말라리아나 일본뇌염 등과 같은 매개모기 감염병을 예방하고자 설치한 해충퇴치기로, 모기 해충이 선호하는 LED파장 램프로 유인하여 포획을 한 후 모기를 분쇄시키는 친환경 해충 방제기기이다.

모기가 활동하는 시기인 4월부터 10월까지 가로등 점등과 소등 시간에 맞춰 상시 가동 중으로, 반경 50m이내 방제효과가 있고 화학적 방역약품을 지양하여 인체에는 무해한 친환경 방제기기이기도 하다. 

이번 모기 포충기 야간점검 실시결과 153대 중 7대는 모터 및 램프 상태가 불량이거나 작동이 안됐으며, 점검 후 고장이 난 포충기는 모터와 램프를 수리 완료하여 현재는 정상 가동 중이다.

보건소 관계자는 “모기 감염병을 예방하기 위해선 주변에 작은 웅덩이와 폐타이어 등에 고여 있는 물은 반드시 제거하고, 야외활동시 긴팔 착용 및 기피제를 사용하여 모기에 물리지 않도록 해야 한다”고 당부하며 “보건소에서는 여름철 시민들의 불편함을 최소화하기 위해 다양한 방법으로 친환경 방역사업을 추진해 나갈 것”이라고 밝혔다.
