설악면 울업산은 북한강 쪽빛 청평호수와 맞닿아 기암, 노송과 조화를 이루어 아름다운 경관을 자랑하는 곳이다. 

수도권 시민들에게 식수가 되는 청정수 청평호수는 울업산의 비경을 거울처럼 마주하고, 단풍이든 울업산은 설악산 절경에 버금가 아름답기로 유명하다고 했다.

경기도 근대문화유산으로 지정된 청평댐과 가평 제2경으로 관광명소화가 된 청평호수, 그리고 북한강 스마트 유람선 운항으로 인하여 북한강 천년 뱃길을 복원하는 대규모 사업이 진행되고 있다고 전했다.  

청정수 북한강의 천년 뱃길은 누구나 즐겨 찾는 관광명소로 홍보, 관광객 유치를 통해 지역경제 활성화에 기여하도록 준비 중이라고 밝혔다. 

이번에 시작한 연구용역은 올해 9월까지로 선촌리 울업산 일대와 고성리 쁘띠프랑스, 수상구급안전센터 등을 연결하여 전망대, 로프웨이 2.9km, 집와이어 1km, 등산용 모노레일 900m 등에 대해 검토할 예정이라고 전했다.

지역주민의 주도하에 관광객과 주민이 함께 하는 산악수상체험관광 프로그램 ‘신선과 함께 산악 익스트림’를 통하여 가평의 생태자연 경관을 보존하며, 후손에게 아름다운 유산을 물려주고자 이번 타당성 연구조사를 실시하게 되었다고 했다.

가평군 관계자는 “아름다운 울업산과 거울같이 비추는 청평호의 비경을 보존하면서도 많은 사람들과 공유할 수 있는 방안에 대해 모색하겠다”고 밝혔다.
