26회 회의는 당초 지난해 개최될 예정이었으나, 코로나19 상황으로 올해로 연기됐으며, 이번 회의는 ‘환동해 거점도시간 경제교류 및 문화·관광 활성화 방안’이라는 주제로 국내 도시는 대면, 국외 도시는 비대면 화상회의 방식의 하이브리드 방식으로 진행된다고 했다.

동해시는 이날 회의에서 의장(개최) 도시에 사무국 설치 운영으로 상시 협의하고 협력할 수 있는 체계 전환, 이해와 소통을 위한 다국적 언어로 환동해 거점도시회의 홈페이지 구축, 회원 도시 공동의 관광 상품 개발을 통한 문화·관광 교류 활성화 등을 제안할 예정이라고 전했다.
