지난 10월 18일 오전 8시 50분 경 광사동에서 소형 화물차 적재함에 담배꽁초가 원인으로 추정되는 화재가 발생했고, 차량 적재함에는 폐원단이 가득 실려있어 자칫하면 큰 사고로 이어질뻔 했지만 목격자의 적극적인 신고와 운전자가 신속하게 소화기로 초기진화해서 큰 피해를 막을 수 있었다고 전했다.

같은날 오전 9시 10분 경 광적면 소재 캠핑장에서 화재가 발생했고, 화재는 화로대세척장 옆으로 캠핑장 이용객이 숯을 버린 용기 안에서 착화 발화된 것으로 추정되었는데, 주변 이용객들이 화재 사실을 빠르게 알아차리고 관계자와 적극적으로 소화기를 사용해 초기진화하여 더 큰 사고를 막았다고 했다.

박미상 양주소방서장은 “날씨가 점점 건조해짐에 따라 화재위험도 증가하고 있기 때문에 화재예방에 많은 주의가 필요하다.”며 “주택용 소화기, 차량용 소화기등을 꼭 근처에 비치에 두고 비상시에 사용하길 바란다.”고 전했다.
