[장선희 기자= 경기북부/강원] 지난 5월 2일, 더불어민주당 경기도당은 6. 1 제8회 전국동시지방선거 더불어민주당 의정부시장 후보로 김원기 전 경기도의회 부의장을 확정했다고 밝혔다. 

김원기 후보는 지난 5월 1일 ~ 2일 의정부시장 후보자를 선출하는 기준으로 진행된 여론조사(권리당원 50%, 일반시민 50%) 경선에서 권재형, 장수봉 예비후보를 제치고 공천 후보가 됐다고 전했다. 

김원기 후보는 의정부 시장 후보로 확정된 이후 SNS를 통해서 “의정부 시민 여러분! 당원 동지 여러분! 경선 기간 동안 많은 어려움에도 불구하고 성원해 주시고 부족한 저를 자랑스러운 더불어민주당 의정부시장 후보로 선출해 주셔서 감사합니다.”고 밝혔다. 

함께 예비후보 경선에 참여한 후보들에 대해서도 “의정부시 발전을 위해 승자도 패자도 없는 경선에 합류해 주신 권재형, 김정겸, 안지찬, 장수봉 후보님들의 가치를 높이 평가하고 심심한 위로의 말씀을 드리며 반드시 의정부시장 당선으로 보답하겠다”고 얘기했다. 

특히, 김원기 후보는 “내 삶이 바뀌는 의정부시 ’50만 시대’를 여는 김원기가 위대한 의정부 시민 여러분과 함께 하겠다.”라고 말하면서 유권자들에게 희망찬 미래를 제시했다. 

김원기 후보는 행정학 박사 출신 3선 도의원으로서 경기도의회 부의장을 역임한 바 있으며, 대통령 소속 자치분과위원회 정책자문위원, 초대 의정부시 평생교육 비전 센터장으로도 활동했다고 밝혔다.
