[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 제10대 경기도의회 전반기 부의장을 역임한 3선 도의원 출신의 김원기 의원이 최근 의정부시장 출마 의지를 밝혔다.

김원기 의원은 경기도의회 제8․9․10대 3선 도의원으로서 재임 중 경기북부도의원협의회장을 맡아 경기북도분도와 관련하여 열정적 의정활동을 했다고 전했다.

특히, 경기북부소방재난본부 합동청사 건축, 경기도청북부청사 평화광장 개장, 북부청사 앞 지하주차장 확보, 사회적 약자를 배려한 조례 제․개정 등 굵직한 의정활동 성과를 이루었다고 했다.

또한 평소 온화한 성격과 부드러운 리더십으로 도의회 내 여야 의원들의 화합을 이끌었으며, 직원들에 대한 따뜻한 배려와 전문성 있는 의정활동으로 경기도청 공무원 노조가 선정한 의정활동 우수 도의원상을 3회나 수상한 바 있다고 했다.

김원기 의원은 “행정학 박사 출신으로 그동안 지역 민간단체 활동가, 교육자, 예술인, 공무원, 학자, 선출직 공직자 등으로 다양하게 활동하며 시정 운영을 위한 경험 쌓았다”며, “이를 바탕으로 이번 6월 1일 지방선거에서 의정부시장에 출마하여 시민이 주인이 되는 적극 행정으로 시민의 행복지수를 높이겠다”는 포부를 밝혔다. 

한편, 김 의원의 시장 출마 기자회견은 도의회 회기기간을 조절하여 다음주 중으로 실시할 계획이라고 전했다.
