고성군은 지난해 34농가에 5,160만원의 예산으로 철망울타리 16개 농가, 전기목책기 14개 농가, 그물망 4개 농가를 지원했으며, 올해는 지난해 대비 840만원이 증액된 6,000만원의 예산을 확보하고, 피해 예방시설 설치비용의 70%를 지원(농가당 최대 철망울타리 350만원, 전기목책기 150만원)하며 나머지는 농가가 부담한다고 했다. 

또한 고성군은 야생동물로 인한 농작물 피해 예방 및 아프리카 돼지열병 차단을 위해 수확기 유해야생동물 피해방지단을 올해 12월까지 연장 운영하며, 야생동물에 의한 농작물 피해보상을 위해 농작물 피해액의 80% 이내로 농가당 최대 500만원까지 지원하는 농작물 피해보상 지원사업도 추진하고 있다고 전했다.

고성군 관계자는 “야생동물 피해 예방시설 설치비 지원을 비롯한 농작물 피해보상 지원사업, 포획틀 운영사업, 유해야생동물 피해방지단 운영도 병행해 유해야생동물로 인한 농가 피해를 최소화해 나갈 계획”이라고 말했다.
