[김택곤 기자=정선군] 정선군은 서민경제 안정을 위해 올해 상하수도 요금을 동결하기로 결정했다.

최근 경기침체 및 고물가 상황에서 전기, 가스 등 공공요금 상승이 잇따르며 주민 부담이 가중되는 상황과 주민 부담 경감 및 요금 인상 자제 정부 시책을 고려하여 이같이 결정했다고 밝혔다.

정선군은 2011년 상수도 요금을, 2019년 하수도 요금을 인상한 후 현재까지 요금 동결 중이다. 물가 상승으로 상수도 생산원가 및 하수도 처리단가는 지속 상승 중임에도 상수도 요금은 10년 넘게 동결 중으로 정선군의 요금 현실화율은 2018년 57.7%에서 2021년 36.1%로 빠르게 악화됐다. 

요금 관련 재정 지표가 악화됨에 따라 정선군은 지난해 4월부터 11월까지 “상하수도 요금 현실화 용역”을 추진했으며, 연7.2%씩 5개년에 걸쳐 36% 인상 방안 등을 검토했으나, 대외 여건 등을 고려하여 요금을 동결하기로 최종 결정했다.

최승준 정선군수는 현 고물가 상황에서 주민 부담을 고려해 요금을 동결하기로 결정했다며, 향후 물가상승률 등을 고려해 요금 인상 시기를 검토해 나가는 것은 물론 생산원가 절감을 위해 유수율 제고 및 경상경비 절감에 집중할 예정이라고 밝혔다.
