[김준호 기자 = 태백시] 이상호 태백시장은 5일 대한체육회 진천국가대표선수촌 내 종목별 체육시설물 견학을 통해, 태백선수촌 다목적 체육관 건립을 위한 본격적인 추진에 나섰다. 

태백선수촌 다목적 체육관 건립은 국가대표 선수촌 증축으로 고지대 스포츠 훈련장 특구인 전국 최고지대 태백에 위치한 스포츠 전략산업 육성을 위한 주요사업이다.

이에 앞서 시는 태백선수촌 다목적 체육관 건립을 위한 2023년 정부예산으로 타당성 용역비(3억)를 확보한 바 있다.

이상호 태백시장은 “미국, 프랑스, 호주 등 스포츠 강국은 필수적으로 고지대 훈련장을 보유하고 있는 만큼, 우리지역 고원 휴양도시의 특성을 살린 스포츠 시설 건립을 통한 스포츠 산업 육성에 주력할 것”임을 밝혔다.
