[남상훈 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 평창군은 지난 2021년 1월 동부지방산림청과 공동산림사업 업무협약 체결 후 총 32억 원을 투자하여 조성한 평화평화봉 숲길 6.7km와 천년주목숲길 순환데크로 2.5km를 전면 개방하기 위한 준공식을 개최했다고 밝혔다.

천년주목숲길은 동부지방산림청, 평창국유림관리소, 평창군, 용평리조트 4개의 기관의 적극적인 협조 및 지원을 통해 산림자원을 보존하고 지역의 발전을 도모한 공동산림사업의 일환으로 천혜의 산림자원과 천년주목을 볼 수 있는 총 2.5km의 순환데크로다. 

해당 데크로는 교통 약자층과 노약자층이 갈 수 없던 천년주목숲길을 누구나 이용할 수 있도록 조성하였고, 국민의 건강증진과 산림복지 서비스 제공, 지역주민뿐만 아니라 관광객들에게 아름다운 천년의 경관을 통한 치유를 선사할 예정이다.

이날 준공식은 동부지방산림청, 평창국유림관리소, 평창군, 용평리조트, 지체장애인협회, 평창군숲해설가협회 등 관련기관이 참석하였으며, 건실한 시공을 완료한 평창군산림조합 공사관계자와 해당 기관의 공무원 등에게 감사패 전달식 및 발왕산 정상 천년주목숲길 앞에서 커팅식 후 국민들에게 전면 개방된다.

해당 사업은 민·관 협력으로 지역발전 및 지역주민의 복지 향상을 위해 발왕산 케이블카 이용 시 평창군민에 한해 50%할인 혜택도 주고 있어 사회가치 환원에도 도움을 주는 등 큰 이목을 끌고 있다.
