[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 태백시는 오는 8월말까지 장마철과 여름철 집중호우 시 폐수 무단방류 등 환경오염행위를 근절하기 위한 '환경오염행위 특별감시·단속활동'을 실시한다고 밝혔다.

이번 특별단속은 집중호우 시 사업장 내에 보관‧방치 중인 오‧폐수에 대한 무단 방류 및 폐기물 등 오염물질이 빗물과 함께 공공수역에 유입될 우려가 높음에 따라 추진된다.

태백시는 3개반 10명으로 장마철 분야별 특별 감시반을 구성해, 상수원 인근 하천 지역 환경오염행위, 하천 주변 오염물질 배출사업장과 폐기물 관련 시설 인근 지역 등에 대한 순찰을 강화하고 집중 단속을 실시한다.

단속은 오는 8월 말까지 3단계로 나눠 추진하며, 1단계는 7월 사전 계도와 홍보, 2단계는 7∼8월 초 중점 단속, 3단계는 8월 폐수 방지시설 환경기술 지원을 할 계획이다.

단속 결과 적발된 업소는 시설 개선명령, 과태료 부과 등 행정조치하고 고의·상습적 위반업소에 대해서는 고발 등 엄중하게 조치할 방침이다. 

태백시 관계자는 “환경오염행위 발견 시 언제든 환경신문고를 통해 적극적으로 신고를 부탁드린다”며 “철저한 특별감시·단속을 통해 환경오염행위를 사전에 차단할 것”이라고 말했다.
