[김일웅 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 강원경찰청 고속도로순찰대 7지구대는 고속도로 운행중 과속카메라 앞에서만 속도를 줄인 후 다시 높이는 경우가 반복되고, 특히 심야시간에는 이동식 단속을 하지 않는다는 인식으로 대형사고의 위험성이 증가하고 있어 연중 지속적으로 ‘24시간 이동식 무인단속’을 실시하기로 했다고 밝혔다.

최근 3년간 고속도로 과속으로 인한 치명률이 25%로 전체 교통사고 치명률 6%를 훨씬 상회하고 있고, 21년도 과속 현장단속 건수를 살펴보면 전년대비 52.1% (2,062건→3,135건) 크게 증가하는 등 경찰의 단속에도 불구하고 과속운전이 만연해 있어 ‘24시간 이동식 무인단속’을 전면 시행하게 된 배경이라 했다고 전했다. 

이에 따라 이동식 단속함체를 수시로 옮겨가며 설치·운용해 심야에도 과속운전 단속 활동을 강화할 방침이며, 카메라에서만 속도를 줄이는 일명 ‘캥거루족 운전자’의 과속·난폭운전 행위에 대해서는 암행순찰차 첨단 장비를 활용, 현장 단속을 병행할 계획이라고 했다.

강원경찰청 고속도로순찰대 관계자에 따르면 “강원도내 고속도로는 산악지형에 따른 교량과 터널구간이 많아 규정 속도를 준수하지 않으면 시야 확보가 어려워 대형 교통 사고 발생 위험이 높다며 운전자들에게 무엇보다 규정 속도 준수 등의 안전운전이 제일 중요하다고”고 당부했다.
