[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 동해시가 갑작스러운 재난 및 사고로 피해를 입은 시민들을 구제하기 위한 최소한의 경제적 안전망인 시민안전보험을 갱신 운영한다고 밝혔다.

가입 기간은 2022년 3월 11일부터 2023년 3월 10일까지며, 과거에 일어난 사고도 사고일로부터 3년간 청구가 가능해 폭넓은 보장을 받을 수 있다고 전했다.

시민안전보험의 대상자는 동해시에 주소를 둔(주민등록이 되어있는) 모든 동해시민이며, 보험 가입비는 동해시에서 전액 부담하여 시민 부담금은 없다고 전했다.

2022년 동해시 시민안전보험은 사망 담보 7건, 후유장해 4건, 수술(치료)비 3건 등 총 14건을 보장하고, 보장금액은 사고별 차등 지원된다고 했다.

올해로 가입 4년째를 맞이한 동해시 시민안전보험은 그간 익사사고, 물놀이 사망사고, 자연재해 사망, 스쿨존 교통사고 치료비 등 총 12건 6,000만원의 보험금을 시민들에게 지급하여, 갑작스러운 재난·사고에 대해 경제적인 보상책을 마련하는 등 시민안전 최후의 보루 역할을 톡톡히 수행하고 있다고 했다.

장해주 안전과장은 “일상생활에서 발생할 수 있는 재난·사고로부터 피해를 입은 시민들의 생활 안정 지원을 통해 시민 생활안전망이 강화될 수 있도록 계속해서 노력하겠다”고 밝혔다.
