[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 강릉시는 자연과 쉼이 있는 시민들의 복합문화예술공간 역할을 하고자 강릉아트센터 내 981㎡ 규모의 실내정원을 조성했다고 밝혔다.

지난 2020년 산림청 공모사업으로 선정되어 8억여 원을 투입해 2021년 착공하여 올해 1월 준공했으며, 벽면녹화 175㎡, 화단 6개소, 초충도 아트월 등으로 조성하고 건물 내 각종 유기화합물 농도 저감 및 미세먼지 흡착·흡수할 수 있는 맛상게니아, 콩고, 홍콩야자 등 공기정화식물을 식재했다고 했다. 

또한, 공기정화식물의 생육에 적합하도록 식물 전용등과 자동급수 시스템을 도입, 빛과 수분을 상시 공급하여 윤기 있고 싱싱한 녹색 잎을 연중 볼 수 있다고 했다.

강릉시는 앞으로 지속적인 유지관리로 계절별 초화류 및 소품 등을 활용해 시민과 밀접한 공간 내 녹색 생활공간을 확충하여 문화예술과 쉼이 있는 공간들을 조성할 예정이라고 전했다.

김석중 녹지과장은“도심 내 사람들의 자연 접근성이 높을수록 개인들의 행복하다는 연구결과가 있다. 실내 식물을 통해 시민들의 심리적 안정, 스트레스 저감 등 정서적 안정과 치유가 되길 바란다”고 밝혔다.
