건설기계조종사 면허소지자는 면허의 종류에 따라 일반건설기계, 하역기계 2개 과정 중 하나를 선택해 건설기계의 구조, 작업안전 및 재해예방 등 안전교육을 4시간씩 3년마다 이수해야 한다고 전했다.

해당 교육 대상자가 조종사 안전교육을 이수하지 않고건설기계를 조종하는 경우에는 최고 100만 원(1차 위반: 50만 원, 2차 위반: 70만 원, 3차 위반: 100만 원)의 과태료 처분을 받게 되며, 교육 수강 방법 및 각 교육기관은 건설기계조종사 안전교육 통합포털을 통해 교육장 위치와 일정 등 자세한 사항을 확인할 수 있고, 코로나19에 따른 온라인 교육도 지난 2월부터 시행하고 있다고 했다.
