[김일웅 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 27일 김경호 도의원은 최근 인구 감소, 관광객 축소 등 시급한 가평 현안 문제를 풀기 위해 경기연구원 북부연구센터를 방문하여 경기도 인구소멸위험 지역 성장방안 연구를 요청하고 연구와 관련하여 협의하는 시간을 가졌다고 밝혔다.

김경호 의원에 따르면 지난해 경기연구원에서 경기도 내 읍·면·동 101곳이 급격한 인구 감소로 향후 30년 내에 소멸할 수 있다는 분석을 발표함에 따라 후속 연구를 위해 경기연구원에 인구소멸지역 성장방안에 대한 연구용역을 요청하여 연구를 진행하게 됐다고 밝혔다.

특히 경기도 내에서도 동북부인 가평군, 연천군, 양평군을 가장 위험 지역으로 분류하고 그중에서도 가평군에 지역 쇠퇴 요인을 파악하여 이에 대응하기 위한 성장방안에 대해 연구한다고 했다.

인구감소는 노동생산가능인구의 감소로 인하여 경제성장율 저하 및 소비절벽, 안보유지를 위한 병력감소, 부동산 수요 감소 등이 나타나기 때문이라고 했다.

이날 논의된 핵심 연구 주제는 인구소멸 위험 대책, 관광문화 발전전략, 규제개선 전략 등 3가지 지역 성장 정책전략을 중심으로 정책 대안을 제시하기로 했다고 전했다.

김경호 의원은 “가평군은 현재 인구감소는 물론 관광객 감소 등 총체적 위기가 도래하고 있으며 이를 극복하기 위해서는 인구감소에 선제적으로 대응하고 이에 따른 관광정책, 규제 개선전략을 마련하기 위해 연구를 요청하게 됐다”라며 “연구 결과에 따라 앞으로 가평군 방향성을 설정하고 이에 따른 장기발전전략을 수립하여 위기에 처한 가평군에 새로운 희망을 만들어갈 수 있도록 노력하겠다”라고 말했다.
