[김택곤 기자=삼척시] 강원도와 삼척시는 11월 9일 여수 해양경찰교육원을 방문하여 해양경찰인재개발원의 삼척시 유치를 건의하고 주민동의 서명부를 전달하였다. 

이날 여수 방문에는 김진태 강원도지사, 박상수 삼척시장, 정정순 삼척시의회의장, 심영곤 도의회 운영위원장, 권정복 해경인재개발원특별위원회 위원장이 동행하였다.

기존 해양경찰 교육은 여수 해양경찰교육원과, 천안 직무교육훈련센터에서 이루어 졌으나 천안교육센터 같은 경우 규모가 작고 전문 훈련시설이 갖춰지지 않아 해양경찰청은 2027년 해양경찰인재개발원 신설을 목표로 하고 있다. 

지난 8월 1차로 사전타당성 조사 용역 대상지로 삼척시,당진시,보령시가 선정되어 오는 12월 최종 부지가 선정될 예정이다. 

해양경찰인재개발원이 들어서면 상주인원 200명 이상, 연간 7000명 이상의 교육을 예상하고 있으며 지역균형발전과, 인구유입, 일자리창출 등 지역활력에 큰 도움이 될것으로 기대된다.
