의정부시스포츠센터는 자원회수시설 설치 및 운영에 따른 주민편의시설로 지하 1층 지상 3층의 규모로 지난 2004년 개관 이후 헬스장, 찜질방, 에어로빅장, 수영장을 18년째 운영 중이며, 연간 약 44만 명이 이용하는 지역을 대표하는 생활체육시설로 자리 잡았지만, 오랜 운영 기간으로 외벽 유리가 빠르게 노후화되어 시설의 안정성 및 미관 저해와 단열 유리의 기능 저하로 시설 운영에 아쉬움이 많았다고 했다.

이에 따라 시설물의 안정성 확보 및 에너지 효율성 확보를 위해 노후화로 인한 기능이 저하된 유리를 지난 1월부터 스포츠센터 외벽 유리 교체 공사를 추진하고 있으며, 공사 설계 용역이 완료되는 3월 이후 공사 착공을 시작으로 오는 6월 중 공사가 완료될 것으로 예상된다고 전했다.
