[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 속초시는 길고양이 개체 수 조절을 위해 3월 둘째 주부터 6월말 까지 상반기 길고양이 중성화 수술비 지원 사업을 실시한다고 밝혔다.

계속 늘어나는 길고양이 개체 수 조절을 위해 중성화 수술비를 지원함으로써 생태계를 안정시키고, 인수공통전염병 예방에 도움이 되기 위해 시행한다고 했다.

민원 제기된 길고양이에 한하여 사업을 추진하며 신고 들어온 길고양이를 별도로 지정된 포획관리자가 포획 후 지정동물병원에서 중성화수술을 한 다음 후처지 후에 다시 방사시킨다고 했다. 

이때 주인 있는 고양이와 동물등록 된 고양이, 임신 한 길고양이 및 2kg 이하 길고양이는 사업에서 제외되며, 민원 신청은 농업기술센터 동물보호팀으로 전화신청하면 된다고 전했다.

속초시는 “길고양이 중성화 수술비 지원 사업을 통해 길고양이 개체 수를 조절하여 생태계 안전 뿐 만이 아니라 소음 등으로 인한 사회갈등해소에도 도움이 되기를 바란다” 고 밝혔다.
