[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 속초시가 시민 전 연령층의 휴식 및 여가활용 공간으로 사용 중인 청초호유원지 일원 수목전정 사업에 돌입한다고 밝혔다.

속초시는 지난해 5월에 수목전정 사업 실시설계용역을 시행했으며 올해 1억 6천만원의 사업비를 확보하여 청초호유원지 남측과 북측, 시민식수공원 일원에 수목 전정 및 수목 식재 사업을 시행한다고 전했다.

청초호유원지 전 구간에 있는 모든 수목들에 전정 작업을 시행하며 특히 1999 강원국제관광엑스포 성공 기원을 위해 조성된 시민식수공원 일원에는 기존에 기증된 식수 중에 수세가 약한 수목을 정비하면서 추가 수목 식재를 통해 식수 공원의 의미를 더하며 주변 환경을 정비할 계획이라고 했다.

이번 전정사업으로 청초호유원지 일원 수목들에 대한 생육환경 개선 및 수형조절은 물론 쾌적하고 아름다운 미적 볼거리도 제공할 것으로 기대된다고 했다.

속초시 이선규 공원녹지과장은“시민들에게 쾌적한 자연휴식 공간을 제공하기 위해 이 사업을 시행하게 됐다 .”라고 전했고 ”야간 이용에 대비하여 추후에 시민식수 공원 등 주요 일원에 노후 공원등을 추가로 교체할 전망이다.”라고 덧붙였다.
