그동안 5천원이던 급식비 지원 단가를 7천원으로 인상하여 메뉴의 다양화 추진은 물론 방학 중 급식을 통해 결식아동의 발생을 최소화하고 있으며, 지원방식도 꿈자람 카드, 도시락, 지역아동센터 급식 등으로 구분되어 대상 아동의 욕구에 따라 선택할 수 있도록 다양한 지급방식을 제공하고 있다고 했다.

결식아동 급식지원 사업은 2005년부터 지자체에서 지원하는 사업으로 18세 미만의 취학 및 미취학 저소득 가정의 아동들이 건강하게 자랄 수 있도록 급식지원 등을 통해 결식을 예방하고 영양 개선을 위한 사업으로 현재 513명의 대상 아동이 지원을 받고 있다고 전했다.  

속초시 관계자는“이번 단가 인상을 통해 메뉴의 다양화는 물론 다양한 식사처 제공을 위해 지급방식을 변경할 계획에 있으며, 특히 사각지대에 놓인 결식우려 아동들이 누락되지 않도록 적극 발굴 및 홍보에 앞장서 사업의 효율성을 높이겠다.”라고 말했다.
