[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 화천군이 국가 유공자들에 대한 대우를 다시 한번 도내 최고수준으로 끌어 올렸다고 밝혔다. 

화천군은 기존에 매월 20만원 지급되던 참전명예수당에 군비를 증액해 올해부터 23만원씩 지급키로 했고, 또 보훈영예수당 역시 올해부터 늘어난 도비수당을 더해 기존 20만원에서 23만원으로 인상했다고 전했다. 

지난해 화천지역 참전명예수당은 모두 179명에게 3억9,769만원이 지급됐으며, 보훈영예수당은 모두 296명에게 6억3,310만원이 지급됐고, 올해부터 각 수당이 20만원에서 23만원으로 인상됨에 따라 총 지급규모도 이에 비례해 증가할 전망이라고 했다. 

화천군의 국가유공자 수당 인상은 전국의 유사 지자체와 비교해도 매우 빠른 속도로 진행되고 있으며, 민선 6기였던 2017년 화천군은 기존 10만원의 참전명예수당과 보훈영예수당을 15만원으로 대폭 인상했고, 이어 민선 7기 2019년, 이를 각각 매월 20만원으로 끌어 올렸고, 당시에도 지원금 규모는 도내 최고수준이었다고 했다.

최문순 화천군수는 “국가를 위해 헌신한 분들에 대한 지원은 아무리 강조해도 지나치지 않다”며 “화천지역 국가유공자 분들에게 최고수준의 지원을 계속해 이분들의 명예를 높이고, 보다 편안히 생활하실 수 있도록 힘껏 돕겠다”고 했다.
