[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 7일 동두천시체육회는 신흥고등학교 야구장에서 신흥중·고등학교 야구부에 1,000만원 상당의 운동용품을 전달했다고 밝혔다.

이날 용품전달에는 동두천시 경제문화국 박정석 국장, 동두천시야구협회 정의권 협회장, 신흥고등학교 김계민 교장, 신흥중학교 이창성 교감 등이 참석했고, 이번 용품전달은 동두천시체육회가 경기도 체육진흥 공모사업에 선정되어, 열악한 환경 아래 운동하며 꿈을 키우는 청소년 선수들에게 지원되었다고 했다. 

동두천시야구협회 정의권 협회장은 신흥중학교에 입학한 동두천 출신 야구선수 3명에게 이날 장학금 30만원을 전달했다. 앞으로도 매년 지원할 계획이라고 전했다.

신흥중·고 야구부는 지난 2015년 창단됐고, 신흥중의 경우 올해 협회장기 야구대회에서 3위에 입상한 바 있으며 신흥고는 대통령배 전국대회에서 16강을 비롯해 전국대회에서 8강이라는 성적을 거두고 있다고 했다.  

박정석 동두천시 경제문화국장과 박용선 동두천시체육회장은 “최근 경기북부 야구 명문팀으로 떠오르고 있는 신흥중·고 야구부가 우수한 성적으로 동두천을 빛내주어 감사하다”며 선수들을 격려했다. 

한편 김계민 신흥고등학교장은 “학교 야구부에 아낌없는 지원을 해주셔서 감사드리며, 앞으로 동두천시의 명문 학교운동부로 거듭나겠다”라고 소감을 전했다.
