[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 포천시와 경기도경제과학진흥원(이하 경과원)이 섬유원단 제조과정에서 나오는 자투리 원단을 활용한 업사이클 제품 개발을 완료하고 상품화에 나선다고 밝혔다.

전국 지자체 중 최초로 자투리 원단을 활용한 업사이클링 제품을 개발 및 상품화한 사례로, 펫시장을 주요 타겟으로 설정했으며, 현재 펫시장이 5조 이상의 시장규모로 매년 성장하고 있는 만큼, 반려인과 반려동물이 함께 입을 수 있는 커플 시밀러룩, 계절별 펫의류, 슬링백, 타올 등 다양한 펫상품을 개발했다고 했다.

이번에 개발된 상품은 공개경쟁을 통해 선정된 펫용품 제조유통기업인 ㈜베네플러스의 온라인쇼핑몰 3곳을 통해 9월 초부터 일반 소비자에게 판매될 예정이라고 했다.

이 외에도 겨울철 가로수 보호를 위한 보호막과 농번기 및 각종 행사에 맞는 물품을 제작해 배부할 예정이라고 전했다.

한편, 이번 사업을 위해 포천시는 업사이클 브랜드 ‘Recho’(Recycle+Echo의 합성어, 리코)를 정식으로 특허청에 업무표장 등록을 완료했고, 해당 브랜드는 ‘지구를 살리고, 환경을 생각하는 업사이클 제품을 인증한다’라는 뜻을 품고 있으며, 향후 해당 브랜드를 활용한 사업을 추가 확대할 예정이라고 했다.
