[장선희 기자 = 경기북부] 지난 6월 25일 의정부시 신곡1동은 여름철 집중호우를 대비하여 주요 침수예상지역의 배수로 정화활동을 실시했다고 밝혔다.

이번 정화활동은 지난 4일에 실시된 1차 배수로 청소에 이어 2차로 진행됐으며, 신곡1동 지역자율방재단, 통장협의회 등 자생단체회원 100여 명과 합동으로 신곡1동의 상습침수구역 5개소의 배수로 1천여 개를 점검했다고 말했다. 

참여자들은 4명씩 조를 이루어 청룡마을, 청룡초등학교와 의정부초등학교 인근 주택가, 한일유앤아이 뒤편 주택가, 서해아파트 인근 주택가 이면도로의 배수로 내 담배꽁초 등 쓰레기 제거하고, 하수관을 막고 있는 진흙을 준설하는 등 폐기물 200kg가량을 수거했고, 신곡1동은 다음 달 초까지 기존 점검지역을 포함하여 추가로 배수로 점검을 실시할 예정이라고 했다.

전정일 신곡1동장은 “신곡1동은 저지대 침수지역이 다수 존재하여 여름철 집중호우 대비가 중요한 지역이다. ”며  “이번 배수로 정화활동에 참여해 주신 지역자율방재단과 자생단체 회원분들께 감사드리며, 침수 취약지에 대한 사전 안전조치를 지속적으로 실시하여 주민의 생명과 재산 보호에 최선을 다하겠다.”고 말했다.
