이번 환경정화 활동은 지난달 23일부터 시작한 ‘새봄맞이 일제대청소’의 일환으로, 15일간 1천500여 명의 인원이 투입되어 약 10톤 가량의 폐기물을 수거했다고 말했다.

 
이날 마지막 청소구역은 스타벅스 의정부신곡점에서 둔배미마을 진입로까지의 금신로 일대 도로변 3천㎡이다. 해당 지역은 차량 통행이 잦고 후미진 지역으로 주·야간에 상습적으로 쓰레기 무단투기가 빈번하게 발생하고, 인근 주민의 민원이 지속적으로 접수된 곳이라고 했다.

참여자들은 마스크 착용과 거리두기 실시 등 청소작업 내내 코로나19 방역지침을 준수하면서, 담배꽁초와 패트병 등 쓰레기와 건설폐기물 2톤 가량을 수거하여 청결한 도로변 조성에 일조했다고 전했다.
