[김현우 기자 = 경기북부] 지난 27일 양주시 양주2동 지역사회보장협의체는 광사초등학교 학생들과 함께 직접 텃밭을 가꾸고 수확해 지역 내 어려운 이웃들과 나누는 ‘초등학생과 함께하는 도시농부’ 사업을 실시했다고 밝혔다.

이번 사업은 도심 속에서 초등학생들이 텃밭상자에 다양한 농작물을 심고 수확하며 생명의 소중함과 농업의 중요성을 체감하는 동시에 직접 수확한 농작물을 소외된 이웃에게 전달하며 나눔의 가치를 실천할 수 있는 기회를 제공하고자 마련했다고 했다.

이날 협의체는 운동장에 모인 학생들과 함께 관찰일지 작성법, 식물의 성장과정 등에 대해 이야기를 나눈 뒤 방울토마토, 가지, 풋고추 등 다양한 식물의 모종을 심으며 텃밭 가꾸는 방법을 교육했다고 했다.

체험활동은 오는 11월까지 매달 마지막 주 수요일마다 실시하며 모종 심기, 작물 재배, 해충 관리, 수확·포장 등 전 과정을 총 9차례에 걸쳐 진행할 예정이라고 했다.

최종설 부위원장은 “이번 사업은 식물재배 경험이 없는 도심의 학생들이 텃밭을 직접 가꾸고 수확물을 어려운 이웃과 나누어보며 나눔의 가치를 실천하고자 기획했다”며 “아이들이 올바른 지역사회의 일원으로 성장하는 데 도움이 되었으면 한다”고 밝혔다.

최계정 양주2동장은 “뿌린 만큼 거두고 관심과 사랑을 주는 만큼 되돌려주는 자연과 생명이 살아 꿈틀대는 텃밭은 학생들에게 훌륭한 인생의 교재가 될 것”이라며 “텃밭 체험 교육이 코로나로 지친 학생들에게 활력이 되었길 바란다”고 말했다.
