[남상훈 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 16일 경기도북부소방재난본부는 여름철 물놀이 안전사고 예방을 위한 ‘119시민수상구조대’ 활동을 마무리했다고 밝혔다. 

‘경기북부 119시민수상구조대’는 여름 휴가철 수난사고 예방을 목적으로 119시민수상구조대원을 배치, 수변 순찰 활동과 응급상황 대처, 인명구조 활동 등을 펼치기 위해 운영됐다.

이를 위해 지난 7월 1일부터 8월 31일까지 가평군 등 경기북부 4개 시군 19개소에 1일 73명의 대원을 배치해 안전사고 예방에 만전을 기했으며 운영 기간 내 119시민수상구조대의 활동 실적은 올해 총 2,624건으로 전년 동기 2,156건 대비 468건 증가(21.7%↑)한 것으로 집계됐다.

이는 코로나19 사회적 거리두기 해제에 따른 일상 회복 움직임이 본격화, 여름철 물놀이객이 늘며 구조활동 역시 증가한 것으로 분석됐으며 특히 119시민수상구조대 배치장소에서 사망자 등 인명피해가 1건도 없어 ‘안전지킴이’ 역할을 톡톡히 수행했고 실제로 가평 배터유원지에서 튜브를 타고 있던 어린이 2명이 빠른 물살로 보(洑)가 있는 위험한 장소로 떠내려가는 것을 발견한 시민 수상구조대원들이 신속한 대응으로 안전하게 이들을 구조하기도 했다. 

고덕근 본부장은 “도민 안전을 위해 애쓴 시민수상구조대원들의 노고에 감사하다”라며 “향후 사망사고 발생 장소 집중관리 등 물놀이 사고를 포함한 더 강화된 여름철 수난사고 방지대책을 마련함으로써 물놀이 안전사고 제로화에 최선을 다하겠다”라고 말했다.
