이번 택시 요금 인상은 강원도 소비자정책위원회 심의·결정에 따라 지난 2019년 4월 이후 3년 만에 조정되는 것으로 택시업계의 경영개선, 승객의 편의 제공 등 서비스 향상 및 종사자 처우개선 등을 종합적으로 고려해 현실화 한 것이라고 했다.

이번 택시요금 인상 결정에 따라 기본요금은 종전에서 3,800원으로 500원 인상되었으나, 거리 요금은 133m당 100원, 시간요금은 33초당 100원으로 현행과 같이 유지되며, 그 외 심야할증 20%, 승차 후 6km 초과 시 거리 운임 할증도 100%로 그대로 유지된다고 전했다. 

더불어 강릉시는 인구감소와 코로나 19의 영향으로 인한 택시업계의 경영난 해소를 위해 ‘2022년 택시 감차보상 사업’을 추진하며, 올해 감차목표는 34대고, 1대당 4,400만 원의 보상이 지급되며, 보상금액은 인근 시.군의 감차보상금, 최근 2년간 강릉시의 택시면허 실거래가 등을 고려해 지난해 ‘강릉시 택시감차위원회’에서 결정한 금액으로 국비와 시비를 비롯한 택시감차보상재단 지원금을 포함하여 총 14억 9천 6백만 원의 예산이 투입된다고 했다.
