교통량이 많은 강변도로에 위치한 오래된 빈집은 폐가로 변해 도시 미관을 해칠 뿐 아니라, 지나가는 차량과 사람들이 마구 버린 쓰레기로 인해 흡사 쓰레기장으로 변해 있었으며, 이를 안타까운 마음으로 보던 주민들이 삼삼오오 모여 쓰레기를 처리하고 흙을 골라 정리한 후 데이지, 페츄니아 등 봄꽃 500포기를 심었다고 전했다.

원태식 통장은 “동네 주민들이 모여서 쓰레기를 정리하고 봄꽃을 심어 아름다운 우리동네 만들기에 앞장서는 수준 높은 시민의식과 공동체의식을 보여줬다.”라며 “앞으로도 주민이 함께하는 공동체 사업들을 발굴해 나가겠다.”라고 말했다.
