[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 17일 오후 국민의힘 경기도지사 후보 경선 주자인 김은혜 의원이 양주를 방문해 양주시당협 안기영 위원장과 이흥규 양주시장 예비후보 등을 만난 자리에서 자신이 경기도지사에 당선될 경우 이흥규 예비후보가 1호 공약으로 제안한 ‘양주경제자유구역’ 지정에 함께 힘을 쏟겠다는 뜻을 거듭 전했다고 밝혔다. 

이로써 김은혜 의원이 경기도지사에 당선되면 그동안 경제적으로 발전이 더뎠던 양주가 경제성장을 이끌면서 경기북부지역을 대표하는 국제도시로 양주를 발전시킨다는 이흥규 예비후보의 전략이 더 한 층 탄력을 받게 됐다고 했다. 

이 자리에서 이흥규 예비후보는 “양주시를 포함한 경기 북부지역은 군사시설보호구역, 수도권정비계획법, 그린벨트 등 각종 규제로 인해 개발이 제한되어 있다. 주민들의 숙원 사업과 기업의 투자도 모두 규제에 막혀 더 이상 진척을 시킬 수 없는 상황”이라고 설명하면서, “경제자유구역으로 지정되면 외국인 및 첨단산업 투자기업에 세금 감면 혜택이 주어지며, 각종 규제가 대폭 완화된다. 양주에 국내외 기업과 자본투자의 길이 활짝 열리는 것”이라고 강조했다.
