[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 이흥규 국민의힘 양주시장 예비후보가 ‘양주 경제자유구역 지정’ 추진을 1호 공약으로 내세우면서 관심이 고조되고 있다고 전했다. 

이흥규 예비후보는 경제자유구역 지정을 통해 국내외 기업과 자본 투자 여건을 획기적으로 넓힘으로써 양주시 1인당 국민소득 5만 불 시대를 열겠다는 포부를 밝혔고, 경제자유구역은 ‘경제자유구역의 지정 및 운영에 관한 특별법’에 따라 해외 투자자본과 기술을 적극 유치하기 위해 세제 감면, 규제 완화 등의 혜택을 받는 특별지역이라고 했다.

이흥규 예비후보는 이를 통해 도농복합도시 양주의 특성을 살리고, 양주테크노밸리 및 은남일반산업단지 조성과 연계해 ICT(정보통신기술) 융복합 기술을 활용한 스마트시티와 스마트팜 등 첨단산업을 육성해 국내외 기업과 자본 투자를 유치하고 지역균형발전을 꾀한다는 전략이라고 전했다.

이를 위해 이미 조성 중인 양주테크노밸리, 은남일반산업단지는 ICT 첨단기술 스마트 단지로 특화시킬 계획이며, 그 외에 K-스마트팜 시범단지, 글로벌 캠퍼스 타운, 테마파크 Ⅰ, 테마파크 Ⅱ 등 4개 지구를 추가 조성할 예정이고, K-스마트팜 시범단지엔 양주 농가와 기업, 대학, 연구소가 산･학･연 합작으로 개발한 한국형 스마트팜 기술을 시현하는 시범단지를 운영할 예정이며, 이를 시작으로 모든 양주 재래 농가를 스마트팜화(化) 함으로써 양주시를 ‘한국형 스마트팜 시범도시’로 만들고 이 모델을 전국은 물론 해외로도 수출한다는 구상이라고 했다.

글로벌 캠퍼스 타운에는 외국 우수 대학교, 초·중·고 국제학교, 국내외 의과대학 및 대학병원 등을 유치해 양주의 교육과 의료 수준을 글로벌 수준으로 상승시킬 계획이며, 테마파크 Ⅰ에는 오는 2024년 교외선이 재개통되는 장흥관광지에 스타벅스·미슐랭 레스토랑 등 세계 유명 카페들을 대거 유치할 계획이고, 이를 통해 에코 힐링 장흥관광지와 글로벌 카페 콜라보로 세계인들이 찾는 양주의 랜드마크로 발전시킬 것이라고 전했다.
