[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 이흥규 국민의힘 양주시장 예비후보가 8호선 탑석(미정)-양주 연장을 추가한 ‘양주와 서울을 하나로’ 교통 공약을 발표해 주목받고 있다고 전했다. 

이흥규 예비후보는 지난 10여 년간 “공무원 출신 시장이 못 이룬 교통 사통팔달 공약을 정치인 출신인 본인이 반드시 완성하겠다”고 자신했다.

이흥규 예비후보는 “인구 50만 시대를 대비하고, ‘양주경제자유구역’ 지정에 따른 인구 유입을 감안하면 현재 계획 중이 양주 교통망은 턱없이 부족하다“라며 ”지난해 국토교통부 ‘제4차 국가철도망 구축계획’의 추가 검토사업으로 지정된 8호선 별내(남양주)-의정부 구간을 양주까지 연장해야 한다“고 강조했다

또한, 공영주차장을 대폭 확대해 양주시민들의 주차불편을 대폭 해소할 계획이며, 옥정·고읍 등 상가지역 노상 주차장 확대, 역세권 환승주차장, 그린벨트 등을 활용한 버스·화물차 전용 차고지, 공원 지하주차장 건설 등을 공약했다고 했다.

아울러 도심과 역세권에서 멀고 시내버스가 운행되지 않거나 배차 간격이 큰 교통사각지대를 없애기 위해 현재 시내버스 노선을 재점검하여 증차하거나 재배치할 계획임을 밝혔다.
