[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 3월 14일부터, 고성군은 맑고 깨끗한 수돗물 공급을 위해 현내면정수장 현대화사업을 본격 착공한다고 밝혔다.

현내면 주민들에게 지방상수도를 공급하는 배봉천에 위치한 현내정수장을 현대식으로 개량하기 위하여 군은 사업의 실시설계를 마치고 국비 등 총 사업비 220억원을 투입되는 이번 사업은 현내면 마달리 산113번지 일원에 연면적 1,332㎡(지상 2층)규모로 건립하며, 오는 2024년 완공을 목표로 개량되는 정수장은 수돗물 공급 전과정과 수질을 실시간으로 감시하고 수질 사고 발생을 사전에 방지하는 등 수돗물 수질관리에 능동적인 대처가 가능한 최신 시설로 조성된다고 전했다.

현내면정수장 현대화사업이 완료되면 현내면 일원 1,535세대에 하루 4,000㎥ 규모의 최고 수질의 수돗물을 공급할 수 있게 된다고 했다.

지난 1979년 시설돼 42여년이 경과한 현내정수장은 시설물 노후화에 따라 구조물의 안정성은 물론 수질안전에 대한 불안이 커지고 있어 시설개선이 절실했다고 전했다.

이번 사업은 오는 2024년까지 3년에 걸쳐 도·송수관로 5.5㎞를 신설하고 노후 된 현내정수장을 재건설 함으로써 고품질 상수도 확충에 획기적인 계기가 될 것으로 기대되고 있다고 했다.
