[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 동해시가 제8차 광역협치포럼에서 도시재생 우수지자체로 선정돼 일자리 창출 부문 최우수상을 수상했다고 밝혔다.

제8차 도시재생 광역협치포럼은 국토교통부와 충청북도, 청주시에서 주최하고 LH, HUG, 한국부동산원에서 주관한 제6회 도시재생 한마당 행사의 일환으로 개최됐다고 했다.

기초‧광역지자체장, 공공기관장, 도시재생 활동가 등 100여명이 참여한 가운데 진행된 포럼은 국내외 도시재생 우수사례를 공유하고 새로운 도시재생 정책방향을 논의하는 한편 도시재생 활동 우수지자체를 선정해 부문별 시상을 가졌다고 전했다.

동해시는 올해 들어 그동안 추진해온 동호지구 뉴딜사업과 동호시장 예비사업, 묵호언덕빌딩촌 새뜰마을사업 등이 잇달아 준공식을 갖고 거점시설 조성과 마을협동조합을 구성하는 등 소기의 성과를 거둬 지역 활성화와 주민참여‧공동체 부문에서 높은 평가를 받아 일자리부문 최우수지방자치단체로 선정됐다고 했다.

심규언 동해시장은 “이번 수상은 그동안 원도심 활성화와 지역 균형발전을 위해 시가 역점사업으로 추진해온 도시재생사업이 결실을 맺은 것이라고 생각한다”며, “앞으로도 생활기반시설 확충과 일자리 창출, 공동체 회복 등 주민의 삶의 질 향상과 도시경쟁력 강화에 실질적 도움이 될 수 있도록 도시재생사업을 지속적으로 추진해 나갈 방침”이라고 밝혔다.

한편, 동해시는 2017년 선정된 동호지구와 2019년 선정된 발한지구, 삼화지구 등 3개 지역에 오는 2024년까지 국비 320억원 등 700억원의 사업비를 투입해 쇠퇴한 구도심 활성화에 행정력을 집중해 나가고 있다고 전했다.
