[김준호 기자=강원남부] 동해해양경찰서(서장 최시영)는 연안 안전사고 예방 목적으로 지난 20일~4월 7일까지 19일간 강원 동해연안 위험구역에서 활약할 연안안전지킴이를 모집한다고 밝혔다. 

연안안전지킴이는, 연안사고예방법에 따라 해양경찰을 도와 연안사고를  예방할 목적으로 연안의 특성을 잘 아는 지역주민을 선발한다.

주요임무는, 위험구역 안전순찰, 홍보계도 활동과 안전시설물 점검 및 연안사고 발생 시 구조지원 등의 업무를 수행할 예정이다. 

지난, 21년~22년까지 2년간 동해서 관내 연안사고는 9건(38건→29건) 감소했고, 사망자수도 4명(14명→10명) 감소했다.

이,는 연안지킴이가 안전사고 예방에 숨은 역할을 했다고 평가되어 동해해양경찰서는 올해도 12명을 선발할 예정이다.  

최종 선발된 연안안전지킴이는, 5월부터 10월까지 6개월간 강릉, 동해, 삼척 지역 내 연안 위험구역 6개소*를 중심으로 매월 15일(주말 4일, 평일 11일)에 동안 3 ~ 4시간씩 2인 1조로 예방 순찰 및 안전 계도를 실시하게 된다.

동해해경 관계자는 “연안해역 지역 사정을 잘 아는 주민을 선발함으로서 효율적인 연안사고 예방 및 안전관리체계 마련과 더불어 지역 내 취약계층 일자리 창출에 크게 기여할 것으로 기대한다” 고 말했다.
