 [서종협 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 태백시정신건강복지센터(센터장 정숙경)는 세계 자살 예방의 날(9월 10일)을 기념하기 위해 관내 초등학생을 대상으로 ‘제2회 생명사랑 어린이 그림 그리기 대회’를 개최한다.

이번 대회는 오는 9월 3일 오전 10시 365세이프타운 광장에서 개최되며, 주제는 자살예방, 우울예방, 생명사랑에 대한 소중함을 일깨워 줄 수 있는 내용 등이다.

출품작은 인당 1점으로 제한되며 참석자들에게는 8절 도화지와 돗자리, 간식이 무료로 제공되며 시상식은 당일 오후에 진행되며, 저학년·고학년 2개부로 구분해 총 17명의 수상자에게 상장 및 부상을 시상한다.

수상작은 오는 9월 24일 정신건강의 날 축제 전시 및 자살예방사업 홍보 등에 활용될 예정이다. 또한, 태백시정신건강센터 홈페이지를 통해 게재된다.

행사와 더불어 자살예방을 위한 ‘괜찮니? 우체통 캠페인’ 및 포토존 운영, 비누방울 나눠주기, 태백시자원봉사센터와 협업해 ‘기후 위기 대응 안녕 캠페인’ 부스 등 다양한 이벤트가 함께 진행될 계획이다.

시 관계자는 “이번 행사를 통해 어린이들과 학부모에게 생명에 대한 소중함을 일깨워주고 생명존중 문화 확산으로 자살 예방을 미연에 방지할 수 있는 계기가 되길 기대한다”고 말했다.  

한편, 매년 9월 10일은 세계보건기구(WHO)와 국제자살예방협회(IASP)가 함께 생명의 소중함과 자살문제의 심각성을 널리 알리고, 이에 대한 공동의 노력과 정보를 공유하고자 제정한 세계자살예방의 날이다.
