[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 오는 16일, 2022 시즌 개막을 알리는 여자축구 첫 메이저 대회가 화천에서 열린다고 밝혔다. 

화천군과 (사)한국여자축구연맹은 16일부터 26일까지, ‘행복교육도시 화천, 2022 춘계 한국여자축구연맹전’을 화천군 각 권역별로 분산개최하며, 이번 대회에는 전국에서 내로라하는 초·중·고·대학의 44개팀이 출전해 축구여왕의 자리를 놓고 11일 간의 열전을 치른다고 전했다. 

특히 전국 최강의 실력으로 손꼽히는 화천정보산업고가 홈팬들의 성원을 받으며 출사표를 던졌고, 각 부별 경기는 조별 풀리그 이후 8강 이후 토너먼트 방식으로 진행된다고 했다. 

대회 기간, 화천을 방문하는 선수단과 임원, 선수가족 등은 모두 1,000여 명을 넘어설 전망이며, 덕분에 코로나19와 외출·외박 장병 감소 등으로 어려움을 겪고 있는 화천지역 음식·숙박업소들도 스포츠 대회 특수를 기대하며 손님맞이 준비에 한창이고, 특히 이번 대회는 지역경제 기여도를 높이고, 선수단 방역 등을 위해 사내면, 상서면, 하남면에서 분산 개최된다고 했다. 

음식·숙박업소가 밀집한 화천읍에도 이미 선수단이 자리를 잡고 대회 준비에 열중하고 있으며, 화천지역의 여자축구 열기는 향후 2~3년 간 지속될 전망이라고 전했다. 

화천군과 한국여자축구연맹이 지난 2019년 5년 간 춘계대회 개최를 약정한데 이어 2020년 5년 간 추계대회 개최에 합의했기 때문이며, 이에 따라 춘계대회는 오는 2023년까지 ‘행복교육도시 화천’, 추계대회는 2024년까지 매년 ‘아이 기르기 가장 좋은 화천’이라는 타이틀을 걸고 화천에서 치러지게 된다고 했다. 

최명수 화천부군수는 “선수들이 안전하게 준비한 기량을 펼칠 수 있도록 방역과 원활한 대회 진행에 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
