강원도동물위생시험소는 지난 2021년 10월 25일 아프리카돼지열병 정밀진단기관으로 지정된 데 이어 이번에 전용 정밀검사시설 신축까지 확정됨으로써, 신속 진단과 초동대응 시스템을 구축하고 명실상부한 전국 최고의 정밀진단기관으로 발돋움할 수 있게 됐다고 했다. 

동 시설의 원활한 신축을 위해 자체 T/F팀을 구성하여 차폐실험실, 전처리실, 기계실, 생물안전작업대, 음압시스템 등을 갖춘 생물안전(Biosafery) 시설 신축을 진행할 예정이며, 아프리카돼지열병 전문 진단요원을 추가로 양성하여 대응역량을 강화할 계획이라고 전했다. 

안재완 동물위생시험소장은 “이번 정밀검사 시설 신축으로 아프리카돼지열병 등 사회재난형 가축전염병 신속 진단체계를 완벽하게 구축하게 되어 신속한 진단과 초등 대응이 가능하게 되었다”면서, “전국 최고 정밀진단기관으로 발돋움하여 강원도의 방역역량을 드높이고, 축산농가 경쟁력 강화에도 기여하겠다”고 말했다.
