[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 강릉시는 전북함이 전시되어 있던 통일공원 함정전시관 부지에 조성예정인 정동진 오토캠핑장 사업이 2022년도 강원도 관광자원개발사업에 선정되었다고 밝혔다.

강원도 관광자원개발사업으로 선정되면서 총사업비 20억 원 중 도비 13억 원(65%)을 지원받게 되며, 내년 상반기 착공하여 8월경에 준공할 예정이라고 했다.

2001년도부터 20여 년간 통일공원 함정전시관에 전시되어오던 전북함이 시설물 노후에 따른 안전사고 우려로 지난 7월 내부관람이 전면 중단되었고, 해군 주관으로 현지에서 2022년 1월 목표로 철거가 진행되고 있다고 했다.

강릉시는 전북함 철거가 완료되면 해당 유휴부지에 비대면 관광트렌드를 반영하고 무분별한 차박문제 해소 및 올바른 캠핑문화 정착 등을 위하여 정동진 오토캠핑장을 조성할 계획이라고 전했다.

오토캠핑장에는 캠핑존 50여 면 외에도 전망대와 포토존, 맨발공원 등 다양한 볼거리와 체험시설이 조성되며 특히, 캠핑 사이트 간 사생활 보호 공간을 최대한 확보하고, 산과 바다가 어우러진 수려한 자연경관을 활용한 이색 이벤트도 개최하여 차별화해 나간다는 계획이라고 했다.

강릉시 관계자는“정동심곡 바다부채길과 모래시계 공원 등 주변 관광지와 연계해서 남부권 관광이 더욱 활성화 될 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
