[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 26일 원주시 태장동 소재 원주지구 전투전적비의 철거를 앞두고 나라를 위해 헌신하신 6·25 전몰군경 호국영령의 넋을 위로하는 위령제가 열렸다고 전했다.

원주지구 전투전적비는 한국전쟁 시 전략 요충지인 원주에서 북한군과 중공군에 대항하다 전사한 국군 제5사단, 제6사단, 제8사단과 미 제2사단을 비롯해 네덜란드와 프랑스군의 명복을 빌고자 1954년 3월 15일 건립됐다고 했다.

사유지에 위치해 지난 수년간 이전·철거 요구가 이어진 가운데, 올해 실측 설계 및 철거 예산을 확보해 곧 철거할 예정이며, 원주시는 전적비 동판을 36사단에서 보관하다가 향후 현충탑 재정비 시 다시 건립할 계획이라고 했다.
