[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 강릉시가 유럽의 관광도시와 교류 기반을 마련하고, 향후 다양한 협력사업을 추진하고자, 8번째 *국제자매도시 이탈리아 소렌토와 온라인 방식의 자매결연 협정을 체결한다고 밝혔다. 

코로나 팬데믹이 장기화되면서 여전히 국가 간 이동과 교류가 많은 제약이 따르는 가운데 강릉시는 오는 18일 시청 8층 상황실에서 강원도 최초로 온라인 비대면 방식을 통해 이탈리아 소렌토와 자매결연 협정 체결식을 치른다고 했다. 

이번 협약식에는 김한근 강릉시장, 강희문 강릉시의회 의장과 안드레아 체렌타노 주한 이탈리아대사관 공관차석 경제참사 등이 참석한다고 전했다.

동시에 마씨모 코폴라 소렌토 시장과 관계자 등도 소렌토 현지에서 온라인으로 함께 자리해 화상 대면 방식으로 체결식을 진행하며, 자매결연 협정 체결을 축하하기 위해 권희석 주이탈리아 한국대사도 로마에서 ZOOM으로 참석한다고 했다. 

강릉시는 이번 자매결연을 시작으로 향후 관광 레저는 물론, 행정과 경제, 스마트 도시개발 등 다양한 분야에서 실질적인 인적․물적 교류 및 협력을 추진해나갈 계획이라고 전했다.

소렌토는 이탈리아 캄파니아주 북부 나폴리현에 위치하여 문화, 예술, 유구한 역사를 간직한 미래발전 잠재력이 풍부한 항구도시로 한국의 자매도시는 강릉이 최초라고 했다. 

김한근 강릉시장은“강릉은 레저와 휴양을 아우르는 대한민국의 대표 해양관광도시로서 항구도시인 소렌토와 자매결연을 통해 해양 레저 관광 산업의 활성화를 기대하며, 향후 포스트코로나 시대를 대비해 앞으로도 해외 도시와 다양한 방식의 소통과 교류를 지속할 예정이다.”고 전했다.
