[김일웅 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 6일 경기도의회 교육기획위원회 위원장 정윤경 의원은 제354회 임시회 제1차 회의에서 여주교육지원청으로부터 60대 노인 폭행 사건 관련 보고를 받았다고 밝혔다.

여주 노인 폭행 사건은 지난 2021년 8월 18일 경기관광고등학교 10대 남학생이 60대 여성을 상대로 담배 대리 구매를 요구하고 근처 소녀상에서 떼어온 국화꽃으로 수차례 머리를 가격한 사건으로, 영상이 개인 SNS에 게시되면서  확산되었고, 현재 여주경찰서에서 신고가 접수되어 수사가 진행 중이라고 했다.

이번 보고는 교육기획위원회에서 이번 사건과 관련하여 사안의 경위를 파악하고 향후 재발 방지를 위해 마련한 자리로, 여주교육지원청 교육장 및 경기관광고등학교장이 참석하여 진행되었다고 했다.

이에 여주교육장은 “학교 부적응 학생들에 대한 프로그램을 준비하고 있고, 학교가 학생의 심리적 지원을 위한 상담 프로그램을 준비 중에 있다.”며 심리적 지원을 위한 노력을 아끼지 않겠다고 답했다고 했다.

정윤경 위원장은 “코로나19 상황에서 심리적으로 어려운 시기에 이번 사건이 일어나 안타까운 심정이고, 강원도에서 가해학생이 전학 오자마자 일어난 사건이라 경기관광고 학생들도 억울한 면이 있겠지만, 이 사건을 계기로 다시는 이런 일이 발생하지 않도록 학생자치회, 청소년의회 등의 제도를 활용하여 학생들이 자생적으로 바른 인성을 함양할 수 있도록 노력해 줄 것”을 학교장과 교육청 관계자들에게 제안하였다고 했다. 

이어 정 위원장은 “학생들이 올바른 민주시민으로 성장할 수 있도록 학교와 교육청, 지역사회가 함께 대응할 수 있는 교육 정책을 마련할 것”을 당부하면서 보고를 마무리 하였다고 했다.
