[김현우 기자 = 경기북부] 지난 6일 양주시 양주1동 주민자치위원회는 산북3통 유휴지에서 어려운 이웃을 돕기 위한 ‘고구마 심기’ 행사를 실시했다고 밝혔다. 

이번 행사는 신영균 동장, 장경복 위원장, 안순덕 시의원, 주민자치위원, 관계 공무원 등 20여명이 참여한 가운데 고구마 모종 2000여주를 식재하였다고 전했다. 

주민자치위원은 체험농장을 운영해 매년 관내 초등학생을 대상으로 고구마, 감자 심기 및 수확하기 등 체험활동을 지원했으나 지난해부터 코로나19 발생으로 인해 농장 운영이 어려워지면서 위원들이 직접 고구마를 키우고 수확, 판매한 기금으로 우리 주변의 소외된 이웃을 돕기 위한 성금을 기탁하며 이웃사랑을 실천해오고 있다고 했다.

장경복 위원장은 “바쁜 농번기에도 불구하고 고구마 심기 행사에 참여해 주신 모든 분께 감사하다”며 “올해도 정성을 다해 키운 고구마 판매기금으로 조금이라도 더 많은 이웃에게 도움을 줄 수 있길 바란다”고 말했다.

신영균 동장은 “언제나 변함없이 지역사회의 어려운 이웃을 위해 활동하는 주민자치위원회에 깊은 감사를 드린다”며 “앞으로도 이웃사랑을 실천하고 함께할 수 있도록 적극 고민하고 지원하겠다”고 밝혔다.
