[김현우 기자 = 강릉] 강릉시 임영 대종각에서 열리는 제야의 종 타종행사가 코로나19 발생 이후 3년 만에 개최된다고 전했다.

오는 31일 오후 11시 30분부터 국악밴드의 공연으로 시작으로 새해맞이 10초 전 카운트다운, 불꽃놀이, 시민 타종 등 시민이 함께 참여하고 즐길 수 있도록 행사를 진행한다.

김홍규 시장과 김기영 시의회 의장은 2023년 계묘년을 맞아 희망차고 풍요로운 한 해를 기원하는 신년메시지를 전한다. 

또한, 행사에 앞서 오후 11시부터 식음료 부스에서 어묵과 온수 커피 등 음식 나눔을 준비하여 시민들이 따뜻하게 새해를 맞이할 수 있도록 할 예정이다. 

이날 행사에는 타종자 24명을 포함해 300여 명이 모일 것으로 전망되어, 구급차량 및 인력을 대기시키고 긴급차량 진입로를 확보하는 등 안전한 행사 진행을 위해 만전을 기할 계획이다. 

강릉시 관계자는 “3년 만에 대면행사로 타종식이 열리는 만큼 시민들이 안전하고 즐겁게 새해를 맞이하실 수 있도록 최선을 다해 준비하겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편, 해돋이 명소인 경포해변과 정동진에서는 오는 31일부터 모래시계 회전행사 및 해돋이 행사가 연이어 진행된다. 

연말연시를 맞아 김홍규 시장과 직원 일동은 30일 종무식을 갖고 한 해를 마무리하며, 내년 1월 2일에는 신년참배와 시무식으로 계묘년 첫 공식일정을 희망차게 시작한다.
