[남상훈 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 7일 오후 2시 횡성군과 횡성군체육회는 군청 2층 소회의실에서 대한야구소프트볼협회(KBSA)와 야구대회 유치협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

이날 협약식에는 김명기 군수를 비롯해 이종훈 대한야구소프트볼협회장, 정명철 횡성군체육회장, 김길수 강원도야구협회장, 김민수 횡성군야구협회장 등 13명이 참석했으며 이번 협약에 따라, 횡성군과 횡성군체육회에서는 대회 운영을 지원하고 대한야구소프트볼협회에서는 대회 홍보와 대회 진행을 추진하는 등 성공적인 대회 개최를 위해 상호 협력하게 된다.

협약 내용은 엘리트 대회인 '백호기 전국중학교 야구대회'와 생활체육 대회인 '대한체육회장기 생활체육 전국야구･베이스볼 5 대회'의 향후 4년간 횡성 개최를 담고 있으며 올해 '백호기 전국 중학야구교 대회'는 지난 8월 11일부터 22일까지 횡성베이스볼파크에서 제1회 대회가 열렸으며, 전국 중학교 96팀이 참가하여 열띤 경쟁을 펼치는 등 성황리에 막을 내렸다. 

김명기 군수는 “앞으로도 횡성베이스볼파크 활성화와 지역경제에 도움이 되는 야구대회를 지속적으로 유치해 우리 군이 스포츠 메카로서 명성을 이어가는데 최선을 다하겠다.”고 말했다.
