[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 강릉시는 제7회 강릉시장기 시민컬링대회를 오는 9월 2일부터 4일까지 강릉컬링센터에서 개최한다고 밝혔다.

2019년 이후 3년 만에 다시 개최하는 이번대회는, 올해는 21개 읍면동 총 30개 팀 180명의 선수들이 예선전 조별 풀리그를 거쳐 8강 토너먼트를 진행하게 된다.

지난주에는 2021년 창단된 강릉시청 컬링부 ‘팀 킴’ 감독 및 선수단이 읍면동 선수단 연습경기 지도 및 강습을 진행하여 시민들에게 컬링의 매력을 알리는 등 빙상스포츠 저변을 확대하는 계기가 되었다.

2024강원 동계청소년 올림픽 D-500일을 맞아 팀 킴 사인회 및 올림픽 홍보행사 등 대회 붐업을 위한 이벤트도 함께 진행할 예정이다.

개회식에 참석하는 김홍규 강릉시장은 “승패를 떠나 컬링을 통해 모두함께 소통하고 공감하는 시간을 보내시길 기원한다”며 “빙상스포츠를 비롯한 생활체육 활성화를 통해 「강원제일 행복강릉」을 일구어 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.
