[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 동두천시는 지난 11일, 소요산교를 개통했다고 밝혔다. 

지난 2018년 7월 5일 국도대체우회도로 소요산IC 구간 부분 개통에 따라 주변 안흥교와 동안교에 차량이 집중되어 교통 정체가 발생하였고 마을을 우회하여 소요산IC를 진입하는 등 많은 통행 불편이 있었다.

이에 시에서는 2019년 9월 공사에 착공하였다. 공사 착공 후 철근 파동, 원자재 및 유가 폭등으로 자재 수급이 원활하지 않아 많은 어려움을 겪으며 2년 10개월에 걸친 장기간의 공사를 완료하였다.

소요산교는 소요산IC 부분개통에 따른 교통정체 해소와 일반산업단지 진·출입 차량과 연천방향을 이용하는 교통량 부담을 경감시키고 국도대체우회도로와 직접 연결되는 도로망 구축으로 일반산업단지의 접근성 확대 등 산업단지 활성화에도 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

동두천시 도로과 관계자는 “장기간의 공사로 인한 불편함을 감수한 모든 시민들께 감사하다”며 “앞으로도 안전하고 쾌적한 교통환경 조성을 위해 더욱 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
