대상은 주택‧준주택에서 반려목적으로 기르는 2개월령 이상의 반려견 및 마당 개 등이며, 신청은 관내 동물병원(12개소)과 동물분양업소(6개소)에서 가능하고 동물등록 정보 변경신고는 동물등록 대행업체 또는 읍·면·동 주민센터에서 가능하다고 했다.

「동물보호법」에 따라 반려동물 소유자가 동물등록을 하지 않을 경우, 100만 원 이하의 과태료, 동물등록 변경사항을 신고하지 않을 경우, 50만 원 이하의 과태료가 부과된다고 전했다.

강릉시 관계자는“동물등록과 관련된 다양한 지원사업 뿐만 아니라 반려문화 캠페인 홍보를 통해 올바른 반려문화를 지속적으로 확산시킬 수 있도록 노력하겠다,”며,“동물등록에 대한 반려견 소유자들의 많은 관심과 동참을 당부한다”고 말했다.
